Tyler Fitzgerald

27-Year-Old ShortstopSS
San Francisco Giants
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fitzgerald's overall production was somewhat predicted by his work in the minors the previous two seasons, as he was a 20-20 player in both Double-A and Triple-A in the San Francisco system. He made the club out of camp, but did not see consistent playing time and was even sent back down to Triple-A until just before the All-Star break. He homered in his last start before the break and then proceeded to homer in each of the first four games after the break. That magical week was fun, but Fitzgerald only went on to homer nine more times with a .263/.311/.455 triple-slash line in the second half. The homers and steals were there, but so were the strikeouts, as Fitzgerald has consistently had below-average strikeout rates throughout his professional career. He made his living off hunting for fastballs, hitting .328 (.287 xBA) with nine of his 15 homers coming off fastballs, but his expected batting averages off nonfastballs was near .150 with a 44 percent whiff rate. The Giants signed Willy Adames and are moving Fitzgerald to second base, but there are some concerns given the swing-and-miss in his stroke. Read Past Outlooks

Goes deep in win

Fitzgerald went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-1 victory over the Rays.
Analysis
The 27-year-old filled in for Casey Schmitt (forearm) at second base for the second consecutive contest and made the most of it. Fitzgerald cracked a 398-foot solo shot off Tampa Bay reliever Mason Englert in the seventh to go back-to-back with Drew Gilbert. After a breakout rookie campaign in 2024, Fitzgerald has struggled with a .220/.278/.335 slash line, four homers, nine steals, 19 runs scored and 14 RBI across 233 plate appearances this season. He should continue to play a starting role in San Francisco while Schmitt is out.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Fitzgerald really struggled in 2022 at Double-A Richmond but bounced back in a major way in 2023, slashing an impressive .292/.365/.511 with 22 home runs and 32 stolen bases between Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. It earned him a late-season cup of coffee with the Giants and the 26-year-old popped two more homers and stole a couple more bases in 10 games. Fitzgerald struck out at a 29.4 percent rate with the big club after fanning at a 28.3 percent rate in the minors, so making contact could be an ongoing issue. He has legitimate pull-side power and stolen-base chops, though, offering some deep-league intrigue should he land a utility job.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hoping to return soon
SSSan Francisco Giants
May 2, 2025
Fitzgerald landed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left rib fracture, but the infielder believes he can be back in the lineup in around two weeks, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Analysis
Fitzgerald told Shea that he hopes to be back with the Giants after around two weeks, which would be slightly over the minimum stay of 10 days on the injured list. It remains to be seen whether Fitzgerald will be able to accomplish that goal, but the Giants will hope the third baseman can return to action sooner rather than later. He's hitting .284/.341/.432 this season.
