Locklear got his first taste of the big leagues last season but looked overmatched in his brief time with the big club, striking out at more than a 40 percent rate in 49 plate appearances. Contact has not been a major issue for Locklear in the minors with a 22.6 percent strikeout rate, so that number should stabilize over time. Locklear doesn't seem to need any more seasoning after slashing .272/.382/.468 with 16 homers in 111 contests between Double- and Triple-A in 2024, but the Mariners don't appear ready to hand him a full-time job yet. Even if he has to bide his time back in the minors for a while longer, Locklear remains an intriguing power bat who should get his opportunity in Seattle eventually. Read Past Outlooks

With Josh Naylor manning first base, Locklear's best chance at playing time would be if the Mariners open up the designated hitter spot by shifting Jorge Polanco to second base on a permanent basis.
