2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mercedes, a seven-figure signee from the 2022 J-15 international signing class, was one of the top prospects slated to open in the Florida Complex League at age 18, but looked overwhelmed. He hit just .184/.236/.357 with four home runs in 25 games. At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Mercedes could grow into more power in the coming years, so he still has upside. However, a .25 BB/K is a red flag for an age-appropriate toolsy hitter in complex ball. Read Past Outlooks

Mercedes is hitting .167 with one home run, three steals and a 13:3 K:BB in 12 Florida Complex League games.
ANALYSIS
The 18-year-old outfielder was one of the top prospects slated to open in the FCL, and Mercedes has disappointed in a small sample. His .200 BABIP can partially explain his slow start, but his 0.23 BB/K is a red flag for an age-appropriate toolsy hitter in complex ball.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Mercedes, a seven-figure signee from the 2022 J-15 international signing class, put on a show in his pro debut as an age-appropriate 17-year-old in the Dominican Summer League. The righty-hitting outfielder slashed .355/.420/.555 with four home runs, 30 steals on 35 attempts, a .200 ISO, 10.2 BB% and 19.9 K% in 41 games. He has plus speed and had a strong batted-ball profile (26.1 LD%, 38.7 GB%) against poor defenders in the DSL, but even so, his .432 BABIP won't be replicated when he comes stateside this year. Additionally, he could stand to cut his chase rate. At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Mercedes could grow into more power in the coming years, so there's a really high ceiling to go with the significant risk of investing in a player with so little experience against good pitching.
