2024 Fantasy Outlook
Fox averaged 2.9 made three-pointers and 2.0 steals per game in 2023-24 -- both career highs. He's posted at least 25 points and five assists per game in three of the last four seasons. However, after shooting a career-high 78.0 percent from the free-throw line in 2022-23, he shot just 73.8 percent last season -- his lowest mark since 2020-21. Fox also shot only 46.5 percent from the field, his lowest mark since 2018-19. Despite the drop in efficiency, Fox finished inside the top 20 in eight-category leagues for the first time in his career. The Kings replaced Harrison Barnes with DeMar DeRozan this offseason, which should take some of the offensive burden off Fox, but the point guard still figures to be a prominent piece of Sacramento's attack alongside Domantas Sabonis. After playing fewer than 60 regular-season games in three straight seasons, Fox has appeared in 147 games over the last two regular seasons. As long as Fox is healthy and racking up steals, he should be a safe bet in the earlier rounds of fantasy drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Undergoing season-ending surgery
Fox will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair tendon damage to his left pinkie finger, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
While he was still playing for the Kings back in November, Fox admitted that he was playing through a ligament injury in the finger. The injury didn't seem to compromise his play, and he missed just four games all season due to a right thumb sprain, and none after being traded by Sacramento to San Antonio in early February. With the 27-37 Spurs having faded from the playoff race and with Victor Wembanyama (blood clot) already out for the season, Fox will opt to get the finger injury addressed now rather than waiting until the offseason to have surgery. He'll conclude his eighth NBA season with averages of 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 three-pointers and 1.5 steals in 36.1 minutes per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field over his 62 appearances. In Fox's absence, Stephon Castle is the likely candidate to fill the opening in the Spurs' starting five alongside Chris Paul, while reserves Julian Champagnie and Keldon Johnson could benefit from more playing time over the rest of the season.

Fox played in 73 games last season and had an excellent season, making his first All-Star team and All-NBA team for the feel-good-story Kings. The point guard just missed his career-best scoring average of 25.2 points, finishing the season averaging 25.0 points. He also averaged a career-high 4.2 rebounds along with 6.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.6 three-pointers on a career-high 51.2 percent shooting percentage. He also shot a career-high 78 percent from the free throw line, though shooting is still a weakness in his game. His ceiling will likely remain a bit capped unless he can make a stride from the charity stripe or from distance, where he converted just 1.6 makes per game at 32.4 percent. Fox was a solid fourth-round fantasy value last year and should remain unchallenged to start at point guard. Fox will once again be a focal point of the offense and is young enough he could take another step forward this season. The fact he only missed nine games is a bonus, and Fox has a chance at being a Top 25 fantasy player in the upcoming season, especially if he can stay healthy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Hoping to sign extension
Fox wants to sign a contract extension with the Spurs, according to Danielle Lerner of The Houston Chronicle. When asked if he was optimistic about reaching terms with the Spurs, Fox said, "I would definitely hope so."
ANALYSIS
Despite playing just 17 games with the Spurs following a midseason three-team trade and a subsequent season-ending finger injury, Fox is already thinking about his long-term fit in San Antonio and is pushing to sign a contract extension. He'll be eligible to sign a new deal for four years and a projected $229 million Aug. 3. That would make Fox part of a promising core alongside Victor Wembanyama, who's recovering from a shoulder injury, Stephon Castle and whoever the team signs with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
