Bouknight found success as a scorer during his first season with the Huskies, which happened to be the final year UConn was in the American conference. After a late start to the season, Bouknight came on strong to work his way into the starting lineup. While he finished with 13.0 ppg, that was bumped up to 15.8 ppg in his 16 starts, including a 23-point effort against Cincinnati. While this landed Bouknight on the AAC All-Freshman squad, he had bigger aspirations heading into his sophomore year. Unfortunately, the pandemic and an elbow injury limited Bouknight to just 15 games, but the Huskies were a different team with him on the floor. He ended up averaging 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, which included a 40-point effort Dec. 2 against Creighton. Despite limited action, Bouknight still finished as a first-team All Big East selection.
