When will sports betting be legal in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania passed legislation to allow sports betting in 2017 and sportsbooks began taking bets in 2019, becoming the seventh state to officially start accepting bets and fourth to allow online sports betting.

It was a gradual process for the state to officially launch sports betting as regulations were ironed out for more than a year following the repeal of PASPA in 2018. Online sports betting began May 2019 and the first physical sportsbook opened a few months later in November.

Daily Fantasy Sports were always considered a game of skill in Pennsylvania and never deemed illegal, though they were formally legalized in 2017 as part of the major gambling bill.

As of 2020, Pennsylvania had 11 physical sportsbooks with more possible by the end of the year. Most of them have the ability to bet online or through a mobile device.
