Shut down for season
Johnson has been ruled out for the season and is expected to require a minimum of three months of recovery time after he was diagnosed Tuesday with heart inflammation that may be related to an earlier infection for COVID-19, Zach Abolverdi of The Gainesville Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
The news isn't unexpected, as Johnson has been hospitalized since collapsing on the court in Florida's game against Florida State on Dec. 12. Doctors put Johnson through a battery of tests before he was diagnosed with the cardiac issue, which could cloud his playing future heading into 2021-22. The SEC's Preseason Player of the Year, Johnson was off to a superb start to his junior season, averaging 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists over the Gators' first four games.
