Oregon head coach Dana Altman said after Saturday's 86-73 double-overtime loss to Creighton in the second round of the NCAA tournament that Shelstad sustained a right knee sprain during the game, James Crepea of The Oregonian reports.
ANALYSIS
Shelstad suffered the injury with 4:40 remaining in regulation before returning to the contest 36 seconds later. However, the freshman guard was forced to check back out of the game with 2:10 remaining in the period and never checked back in for either overtime period while sporting a wrap on his knee as he sat out the bench. Altman said he didn't know the severity of Shelstad's sprain, so the freshman guard could be sent in for an MRI as Oregon looks to assess his condition heading into the offseason. Shelstad wrapped up his first collegiate season with averages of 13.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 three-pointers and 0.6 steals in 32.6 minutes per game over 31 appearances while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
