Around this time last year, Hunter suffered a cardiac problem that rendered him out for Xavier's 2023-24 season. During it, he also underwent Achilles surgery, which has prolonged his physical health from being 100 percent. But according to Xavier's head coach Sean Miller, Hunter being cleared for non-contact work has resulted in him being hopeful of full contact by the fall. By getting to that stage of his physical recovery this coming autumn, he would be ready for Xavier's 2024-25 season.

Hunter (undisclosed) returned to limited practice but is not close to returning to the court anytime soon, Shelby Dermer of Cincinnati.com reports. "Jerome (Hunter) has continued to progress through a rigorous return to play script. He's cleared several major hurdles, one of which occurred today with a return to practice in limited capacity," Xavier athletics said in a statement. "He still has a way to go before returning to the court in a game setting, but given where he was six months ago, every milestone is worth celebrating."
