Luka Garza

Preparing for NBA Draft
CIowa
June 2, 2021
Garza has lost approximately 17 pounds and is training in the Washington D.C. area in preparation for the NBA Draft, The Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though the NCAA is not technically counting the 2020-21 season towards the eligibility of its athletes, it was all but a forgone conclusion that the reigning National Player of the Year would be heading to the next level after his graduation from Iowa. He's already profited off his likeness by creating and auctioning off his own NFT, and it appears his sights are already set on the NBA's pre-draft Combine. Garza led the NCAA in total scoring in 2020-21 before Iowa fell to Oregon in the Round of 32, with the 6-11 center putting up 36 points in the team's exit. He hopes the weight loss will help with his quickness and athleticism as he tries to catch the eye of NBA scouts. Garza's departure leaves a major void at center for the Hawkeyes, which the team will presumably look to fill with North Dakota transfer Filip Rebraca and sophomore forward Keegan Murray.
