Moving to running back
June 10, 2020
Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said Feb. 6 that Smith will make a full-time move from wide receiver to running back in 2020, Alex Miller of The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports.
The Aggies headed into the spring with just one returning scholarship running back from the 2019 roster (Isaiah Spiller), so Smith's permanent addition to the backfield provides some much-needed depth. After playing exclusively at receiver during the regular season and compiling 20 receptions for 235 yards and three touchdowns, Smith switched to running back ahead of the Aggies' Texas Bowl win over Oklahoma State and contributed seven carries for 54 yards to go with two catches for 13 yards. Expect him to open fall camp as the top change-of-pace option behind Spiller.
