2021 Fantasy Outlook
Chaney heads into 2021 as a piece to a crowded backfield in Coral Gables. As a freshman, Chaney showed flashes of potential, putting up 143 total against Duke and 94 total against Oklahoma State, but is battling Cam’Ron Harris and Jaylan Knighton for touches. Miami says they are committed to using a featured back rather than a committee, but it’s unsure if that’s game to game, or if a true lead will emerge. Long term, Chaney and Knighton have great potential as a thunder and lightning duo, but for 2021, it’s hard to predict a big breakout, as his style and body are more similar to Harris, who returned after flirting with the NFL Draft and likely didn’t do so to sit. He’ll get his touches, but anything more than a repeat of 2020 would surprise. He’s a year away from big potential. Read Past Outlooks
Done for season with ACL tear
Knee
September 13, 2021
Chaney sustained an ACL tear to his knee in Saturday's 25-23 win over Appalachian State and will soon undergo season-ending surgery, Matt Zenitz of On3.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chaney's recovery from surgery will likely extend through spring workouts, but given how early in the 2021 campaign the injury occurred, he could be ready to go for camp ahead of the 2022 season. The second-year freshman had been serving as the Hurricanes' No. 2 back behind Cam'Ron Harris through Miami's first two games, carrying 11 times for 44 yards and a score to go with a four-yard reception.
