Out for spring following surgery
February 11, 2020
LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday that Gilbert, an incoming freshman, will miss spring football after recently undergoing shoulder surgery, Brooks Kubena of The New Orleans Advocate reports.
The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Gilbert heads to LSU with high expectations, as the five-star recruit became the first true tight end to win Gatorade National Player of the Year honors after nabbing 101 receptions for 1,760 yards and 14 touchdowns during his senior year of high school. The early enrollee will miss out on some important reps this spring, but he'll likely be good to go once fall camp arrives. Assuming Gilbert can pick up LSU's system quickly, he'll have a good chance to replace the departed Thaddeus Moss as the Tigers' top receiving tight end in 2020.
