Jackson began fall camp with the second-team offense and is continuing to work with them as fall practice begins. Many questions surround Ohio State's backfield, but it is key to note that Jackson just returned after missing spring practice with a shoulder injury, which could explain his gradual progression toward first-team reps. His primary competition right now for touches is Isaiah West, who has impressed early in camp and looks primed to split reps to begin the season. While the Buckeyes' backfield is highly competitive with West, Ja'Kobi Jackson, and Legend Bey all mixing in first-team reps Saturday, the sophomore tailback earned the starter role as a true freshman last year, seemingly making it only a matter of time before he gets opportunities with the top unit.
