2025 Fantasy Outlook
Nussmeier warranted plenty of hype going into 2024, his first season as the full-time starter at LSU, after lighting it up in his first two appearances of meaningful game action before last year. Nussmeier delivered on the hype as he completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,052 yards with a 29:12 TD:INT ratio. Many pundits and scouts now have Nussmeier as the top-ranked quarterback in college football this year, with a hopeful outlook to be the first quarterback drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, there has been a bit of a shakeup to his pass-catching group since last year. LSU and Nussmeier will lose three of their top four receiving targets in Kyren Lacy, Mason Taylor and C.J. Daniels. However, the Tigers' receiving corps should not be short on talent, as they are returning their top pass catcher from a year ago, Aaron Anderson, along with speedsters Chris Hilton Jr. and Zavion Thomas and big tight end Trey'Dez Green, who saw four of his 13 catches a year ago go for touchdowns. Along with the returnees, LSU also added two former four-star recruits and highly touted transfer wide receivers in Barion Brown and Nic Anderson. With a fully equipped and capable pass catchers' room and a head coach who wants the game to rest in the hands of his quarterback, Nussmeier looks poised to have another stellar season. 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Nussmeier has been waiting in the wings for three years and now finally gets his shot. He has big shoes to fill as the follow-up act to 2023 Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, but Nussmeier has shown flashes of serious potential before. While he won't be able to lean on Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas as Daniels did, the cupboard is hardly bare for Nussmeier. Nussmeier put himself on the map in relief of Daniels in the 2022 SEC Championship Game against Georgia when he threw for 294 yards and two scores. He capitalized on his start in last year's bowl game against Wisconsin by throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns. Nussmeier has a cannon arm and elite talent around him, including on the offensive line, which will translate to gaudy production in 2024. Things could get even better for Nussmeier's numbers if the defense is as porous as 2023, but that would be difficult.
