2021 Fantasy Outlook
Shaheen compiled a career-high 150 receiving yards in his inaugural season with the Dolphins, finally staying healthy for a full 16-game slate and proving efficient as a reserve complement to Mike Gesicki. The addition of rookie third-round pick Hunter Long will cut into Shaheen's workload in 2021, but he could have an opportunity in 2022 if Gesicki and Durham Smythe aren't re-signed. Upgrades to full practice

September 16, 2021
Shaheen (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Dolphins' Week 1 win over the Patriots while he was on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Shaheen rejoined the team for practice Wednesday, but his reps were capped on account of the knee injury. Shaheen seemingly erased any concern about his health by participating fully in Thursday's session, but he's not guaranteed to have a sizable role Week 2 against the Bills, given the existing competition at tight end. Mike Gesicki remains the Dolphins' top pass-catching threat at tight end, while Durham Smythe's combination of blocking and receiving skills allowed him to lead the position group in snap share (70 percent) in the opener.

How often does Adam Shaheen run a route when on the field for a pass play?
This data will let you see how Adam Shaheen and the other tight ends for the Dolphins are being used. Some tight ends may have a lot of snaps, but they're not that useful for fantasy purposes because they're not actually running routes. This data will help you see when this is the case.

How does the Raiders pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. After failing to carve out a role in Chicago across three injury-riddled seasons, the Dolphins acquired Shaheen for a late-round pick just ahead of training camp. Mike Gesicki is firmly entrenched as the top tight end in Miami, but if Shaheen is able to finally stay healthy he could make a push for the No. 2 job. In his three-year career, he's managed just 26 catches for 249 yards and four scores to date.
Since Chicago has a number of solid receivers, including starting tight end Trey Burton, Shaheen will have precious few opportunities to contribute to the passing attack. In two years with the Bears to date, he's been targeted 20 times in 19 games, compiling an 85 percent catch rate and 8.8 yards per target. Those are exceptional numbers for any player, but his situation is such that he'll find it difficult to be a consistent option in the Bears offense.
Efficiency was the name of Shaheen's rookie year – he caught 86 percent of his targets and turned 12 catches into three touchdowns. Not bad, especially when you consider all the offensive chaos around him. New coach Matt Nagy was complimentary of Shaheen all spring; then again, the Bears threw a huge contract at free agent Trey Burton, who Nagy compared to Travis Kelce. Shaheen's 2018 fantasy value will probably depend on how quickly Burton can get up to speed; and if Burton is healthy all year, Shaheen's interesting, theoretical upside might have to stay on fantasy waiver wires.
Although the Bears drafted Shaheen with their second-round pick in the 2017 draft, he'll face a steep challenge as he looks to make the leap to the NFL from his collegiate experience at the Division II level. He's a physical marvel at 6-6, 278 pounds, and despite his size, he was drafted as a receiving tight end after recording 57 passes for 867 yards and 16 touchdowns last year. One of the reasons the team coveted him was an ability to dominate 50-50 balls while also being able to run over defenders. With Zach Miller currently slated to be the primary receiving tight end and Dion Sims also ahead of him on the depth chart, Shaheen should be provided time to grow into his role, which makes sense as he plays a position that many high-level college athletes struggle to master early in their careers. He'll be more valuable this year as a speculative pick in dynasty leagues than he'll be in redraft leagues.
