Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
A sixth-round pick in 2021, Mitchell spent four injury-plagued seasons in San Francisco during which he was able to suit up for only 27 regular-season games, missing all of 2024 while recovering from hamstring surgery. The speedster was able to occasionally flash when healthy, averaging 6.2 yards per carry in 2022, and that was enough to earn him a one-year contract from Kansas City in March. Mitchell won't be asked to handle much volume behind Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, and if his injuries have cost him a step, he could be pushed by rookie Brashard Smith. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Inactive Sunday
Mitchell is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Mitchell a healthy scratch and Isiah Pacheco (knee) having previously been ruled out, look for Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith to lead the Chiefs' Week 9 backfield, with practice squad elevation Clyde Edwards-Helaire also available to mix in.

Mitchell showed as a rookie that he has the talent to be a good starting running back in the NFL, but he's struggled to stay healthy even when occupying a backup role. He spent the past year and a half behind the league's pre-eminent workhorse, Christian McCaffrey, who might not have been acquired in the first place if Mitchell had been healthier his first two seasons. In any case, he's missed 24 of a possible 51 regular-season games, and San Francisco couldn't resist the temptation of drafting Louisville burner Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round this spring. Mitchell then struggled with injuries throughout the summer, ultimately landing on IR before the start of the season and leaving Guerendo and Jordan Mason to handle backup roles behind McCaffrey.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Season debut expected Week 9
Mitchell's likely to work in a depth role Sunday against the Bills in Isiah Pacheco's expected absence, per ESPN's Nate Taylor.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell has yet to make his regular-season debut for Kansas City, but that will likely come in Week 9 against the Bills due to the expected absence of Pacheco, who has a sprained MCL. Kareem Hunt will likely work as the lead back, but Mitchell could factor in on early downs while Brashard Smith plays in some passing situations. Mitchell has a robust career average of 4.7 yards per carry, but his last regular-season NFL action came in 2023 with the 49ers.
