2021 Fantasy Outlook
A third-round pick, Sermon could not have found a better landing spot than San Francisco. A one-year starter at Ohio State after transferring from Oklahoma, he never posted 1,000 yards in college, but Sermon has the size, power and explosiveness to be an effective weapon in the NFL. Questions were raised about his vision and elusiveness, and his upright running style makes it tough for him to stay on his feet after contact and could lead to injuries down the road, but in a Kyle Shanahan scheme built around getting players the ball in open space, some of those issues fade in importance. Sermon is no match for teammate Raheem Mostert in the speed department, but the rookie could still earn carries off the bench early in the season, especially after Jeff Wilson had knee surgery in May. If he does eventually end up in a starting role, Sermon has the skills (and team context) to make an impact. Read Past Outlooks

Back in RB mix
RBSan Francisco 49ers
September 13, 2021
Sermon is slated to be a part of the 49ers' running back rotation with Raheem Mostert (knee) expected to miss the next eight weeks, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Coach Kyle Shanahan made Sermon a healthy scratch in the team's season opener, leaving Mostert, JaMycal Hasty and rookie sixth-rounder Elijah Mitchell is the available running backs. After Mostert went down with a knee injury in the first half, Mitchell was the player to profit most, taking 19 carries for 104 yards and one touchdown. Hasty himself had just two touches for 18 yards and one TD, so Mitchell seems to be the preferred RB option in San Francisco for the time being. Having said that, the 49ers invested more draft capital in Sermon than Mitchell back in April, so the former will get a chance to climb the depth chart as soon as Sunday at Philadelphia.

This Week's Opposing Pass Defense
How does the Eagles pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. The list of players in the table only includes defenders with at least 3 attempts against them.
