Heads back to practice squad
Collins reverted back to the Patriots' practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Collins was elevated to New England's active roster prior to Monday night's matchup against the Bears, where he eventually failed to record any stats despite logging 22 defensive snaps and five special teams reps in the contest. The 33-year-old has suited up for a combined 13 games over the past three NFL seasons, and he'll now return to the team's practice squad as an emergency depth option.

While hiring a bunch of ex-New England coaches didn't transform the Lions into the NFC's version of the Patriots, the move to reunite Collins with coach Matt Patricia worked out last season. Not only did the do-it-all linebacker reach triple-digit tackles for the third time in his career, Collins also filled the stat sheet with a sack, six pass defenses, one interception and three forced fumbles. Despite Collins entering his age-32 season with a new coach and defensive coordinator, the Lions again will need him to do it all after they didn't bolster a linebacker group that contributed to the unit allowing the most yards in franchise history in 2020. As a result, he's a great bet to lead the team in defensive snaps and be a valuable IDP this year.
