It wasn't exactly a high bar to clear in a game the Chargers lost 16-3, but Perez's 61 passing yards were more than Max Duggan's 41 or starter Easton Stick's 31, and Stick also had an interception. With the Chargers scrambling to have a viable replacement available should Justin Herbert's foot injury linger into the regular season, Perez could put himself in the backup conversation if he continues to outplay Stick, Duggan and Casey Bauman.
