2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mattison did well in his first four NFL seasons and seemed well-situated going into his fifth in 2023, but instead Mattison's one-year stint as starter went about as poorly as possible. Fumbling, dropped passes and short-yardage struggles suddenly became constant issues for Mattison in 2023, even when each was previously a strength of his. Mattison's one-year, $1.98 million contract with Las Vegas is mostly guaranteed and with that his odds of making the final roster should be strong, but he'll need to play more like he did before last year if Mattison is to hold off the likes of Ameer Abdullah and rookie sixth-round pick Dylan Laube. Zamir White is the presumed starter either way. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Set to join Las Vegas backfield
Mattison is in line to sign with the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
In 16 games for the Vikings during the 2023 regular season, Mattison had 180 carries for 700 yards and caught 30 of his 44 targets for 192 yards and three receiving TDs. With the Raiders, Mattison -- who turns 26 in June -- is slated to provide the team with needed backfield depth and a complementary option alongside 2022 fourth-rounder Zamir White following the free-agent departure of Josh Jacobs. Assuming White serves as Las Vegas' top RB option, Mattison's weekly upside will be modest, but if White is injured or struggles at all as the 2024 season progresses, Mattison could reenter the fantasy lineup equation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not playing Saturday
Mattison has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Bengals due to the ankle sprain that forced his early exit from the Week 14 win over the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattison exited the game against Las Vegas on the first play of the second half, so Ty Chandler, who's now set to operate as the lead back against Cincinnati, already has some reps under his belt as Minnesota's top backfield option. Mattison failed to practice in any capacity this week, suggesting the injury could be severe enough to keep him out beyond Saturday.

After four years of backing up Dalvin Cook, Mattison will get his starting shot this season as Cook was released in June. Still only 25, Mattison should have fresh legs thanks to a light workload over the years -- in fact, he had career-low 89 touches last year because Cook stayed healthy for a full season for the first time. While Mattison lacks breakaway speed (4.67 40, career 4.1 YPC), he's familiar with the offense, has the frame to handle large workloads (215 pounds) and even boasts a strong track record as a receiver (career catch rate of 83.3 percent at 6.3 YPT). He also has just two fumbles on 474 career touches, so he's as good as anyone at protecting the ball. Rookie seventh-round pick DeWayne McBride might have something on Mattison as a pure runner, but McBride has no history as a pass catcher and fumbled five times in 2022 alone. That should help ensure Mattison is a three-down back.
