2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Carter's first full season in Arizona didn't amount to much. Working behind James Conner, Trey Benson and Emari Demercado, Carter spent most of the campaign on the practice squad, eventually seeing action in the final three games on the Cardinals' schedule as injuries piled up in the backfield. He produced some inefficient volume on the ground but caught multiple passes in all three contests, highlighting his primary skill set. Arizona brings back the same cast of RBs in 2025, and Carter could once again be the odd man out most weeks when everyone is healthy. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Heavy workload in preseason loss
Carter rushed eight times for 10 yards and brought in all five targets for 19 yards in the Cardinals' 27-7 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Carter was the first running back in the game for Arizona and logged the first touch from scrimmage, gaining three yards. The veteran back also made his usual impact as a receiver, but although he saw a heavy workload over the last two games of the 2024 regular season due to injuries in the Cardinals' running game, Carter is seemingly facing an uphill battle to hold on to a roster spot this summer. Trey Benson, a 2024 third-round pick, is expected to have a much bigger role behind No. 1 back James Conner in his second campaign, while Emari Demercado is a more explosive runner that can also serve as an effective pass-catching option out of the backfield.

Claimed off waivers from the Jets last season, Carter made a surprising impact behind James Conner, scoring his first career receiving touchdown and averaging an eye-popping 6.8 yards per carry. Much of that production came in Week 17 against a reeling Eagles defense, however, and his ability to repeat those numbers on bigger volume is suspect given his limited athletic profile. Carter's spot on the depth chart is also in jeopardy after the Cardinals drafted Trey Benson in the third round. Carter will compete with Emari Demercado for snaps behind the team's current and future lead backs.
