2022
Penning has started six of 23 regular-season appearances over his first two seasons. The 2022 first-round pick will vie for the Saints' starting right tackle position, as stalwart Ryan Ramczyk is out for the season due to a knee injury.
Penning's 2022 rookie season was stunted by injury, limiting him to just six games with one start at left tackle. The first-round will look to remain healthy after undergoing surgery to address a Lisfranc injury in his right foot this offseason.
Penning was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 19th overall. The rookie will likely enter the season as the Saints' No. 2 left tackle behind veteran James Hurst, who appears to be the favorite to secure the starting job after the depature or Terron Armstead to the Dolphins. Penning's size and athleticism are tools that should make him a starting-caliber tackle eventually, but he'll need to make improvements in his game before he is truly ready.

Off injured reserve
OTNew Orleans Saints
November 26, 2022
Penning, who hasn't played this season due to a toe injury, will be activated off injured reserve Saturday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2022 first-round pick could finally make his regular-season debut after injuring his toe during the preseason. The Saints have been decimated with injuries all along the offensive line, which means Penning could eventually make his way into the starting lineup over incumbent James Hurst.
