2025 Fantasy Outlook
O’Connor will be out until at least early November after getting offseason hip surgery. The 28-year-old posted just 21 points in 80 games during the 2024-25 regular season in a bottom-six role, which will also be his niche for the Avalanche whenever he returns. He also added 68 hits and 50 blocked shots in his 14:07 of average ice time. The seven-year NHL veteran has shown a penchant for getting hot -- he had six points in seven postseason games last year – but considering his even-strength deployment, lack of power-play time and a career high of just 26 points, O’Connor likely won't be worth a draft pick even to stash, but he might be an intriguing waiver-wire claim in deeper leagues once healthy. On track for November return
O'Connor (hip) is still on schedule to return in early November, Meghan Angley of Guerilla Sports reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
That's in line with the timetable O'Connor was given when he underwent hip surgery in early June. He had 10 goals, 21 points, 26 PIM, 68 hits and 50 blocks across 80 regular-season outings in 2024-25. When healthy, O'Connor will likely serve in a bottom-six capacity.

A hip injury limited O'Connor to just 57 regular-season contests with the Avalanche this past season. In those appearances, the 27-year-old winger posted a career-high 13 goals, reaching the 20-point threshold for the third straight season, despite his lack of games. It's possible there is a spot in the top six up for grabs heading into the 2024-25 campaign - though both youngster Nikolai Kovalenko and veteran Valeri Nichushkin could be in the mix as well. Even if O'Connor finds himself stuck in a third-line role, he should still be capable of producing another 25-point campaign, perhaps even pushing for the 30-point mark.
