2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sanderson took a major step into becoming one of the NHL's premier defensemen, with a career-high 11 goals and 46 assists in 80 regular-season games. He was a dominant force on the power play, where he notched over half of his production (five goals, 25 assists), and he was extremely clutch, scoring four of his 11 goals as game-winners. That being said, in order to become a true superstar, Sanderson needs to take a step forward at five-on-five, where his play dropped off with the role of the Senators' No.1 defenseman. Regardless, with the production that the fifth overall pick in 2020 can put up on the power play and with so much room to grow at just 22 years old, the ceiling seems almost limitless for him as the Senators look to build on last year's playoff run. ANALYSIS
Sanderson's season is off to a strong start with a multi-point effort. His first assist was on Dylan Cozens' power-play goal in the first period, and he also set up Shane Pinto's go-ahead tally late in the third. Sanderson broke out with 57 points in 80 regular-season games last year, and at 23 years old, he could still have another level to get to in 2025-26. He's not a heavily physical player, but he's blocked at least 139 shots in all three of his NHL seasons so far.

Sanderson had a better offensive performance in his sophomore season in 2023-24, netting 10 goals and earning 38 points in 79 games. He also improved defensively and formed a solid shutdown pairing with Artem Zub. The 22-year-old Sanderson has tremendous upside as a two-way defender. He already claimed a spot on the top power-play unit last campaign, and his responsibilities could increase further in 2024-25 after the Senators traded Jakob Chychrun to Washington during the offseason. Sanderson should surpass the 40-point mark while topping 150 shots on goal and 150 blocked shots.
