Power was drafted first overall by the Sabres at the 2021 NHL Draft on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Power is an absolute beast on the blue line and has all the makings of a top-pairing defender in his prime. He's a great skater with mammoth size (6-foot-6, 215 pounds) and tremendous hockey sense. The guy's vision and ability to manage the ice is uncanny for an 18-year-old and that's what separates his game from his peers ... and many NHLers today. Power was impressive in 2020-21 at the University of Michigan and dominated at the 2021 Men's World Hockey Championship in May. There, he ascended to the top pairing, playing 20-25 minutes a game against pros in every situation. We've heard comparators to Victor Hedman of the Bolts, but don't bite on that. Power will be a tower on the ice, but he's not likely to excel offensively. He'll play on the power play but won't run it. He's a solid fantasy asset, but Power should not be your first fantasy defender from the 2021 class. He says he's headed back to Michigan, but the Sabres will do all they can to change his mind.
