2025 Fantasy Outlook
Early in his career, it looked like Wennberg might be a significant offensive contributor. He had 59 points in his age-22 season back in 2016-17. However, he hasn’t reached the 40-point mark since and has recorded between 30-38 points in each of his past four seasons. Now 30 years old (31 on Sept. 22), the hope of him becoming an offensive force is well in the rear-view mirror. He was limited to 10 goals and 35 points across 77 appearances with San Jose last season despite averaging 18:51 of ice time, including 2:48 with the man advantage. If he couldn’t reach the 40-point mark with that generous workload, then there’s no reason to believe he’ll do so in 2025-26. Read Past Outlooks

Scores on power play
Wennberg scored a power-play goal on two shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Wennberg put the Sharks ahead 2-1 with his goal in the second period. He's more of a pass-first player on offense -- the center has not exceeded 13 goals in any of the last four campaigns. Moreover, he's primarily valued for his two-way play, and with the Sharks, his experience is worth more than his scoring. The 31-year-old will likely fill a second-line role as long as Will Smith stays on the wing, though Michael Misa could get a look down the middle at some point this season after making the team out of camp.

Wennberg provided 10 goals and 30 points in 79 regular-season games between Seattle and the Rangers last season. It was the third straight campaign in which he finished with 30-40 points, so his performance can't be seen as surprising. Sure, Wennberg had 13 goals and 59 points across 80 appearances with Columbus in 2016-17, but it looks like that campaign will go down as the high-water mark of Wennberg's career. The 29-year-old (30 on Sept. 22) signed with San Jose over the summer and will likely serve as the second or third-line center. In either role, he's unlikely to exceed the 40-point mark this year. Even in leagues that value faceoffs, his use is limited. He is likely to take a lot of draws, but his career 46.2 winning percentage is nothing to get excited over.

Looking to stay with team
Wennberg is hoping to re-sign with the Kraken, telling reporters Friday, "I've been here one year, and I've really had a great time here, great organization, everyone around here," Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
ANALYSIS
Wennberg is in the final season of a two-year, $10 million deal he signed with the Sharks in July of 2024. In his first year with San Jose, the veteran center notched 10 goals, 25 helpers and 10 power-play points in 77 regular-season games, numbers that he should be capable of repeating this year.
