Cootes was well traveled in 2025-26. The 15th overall pick in 2025 made his NHL debut Opening Night and played in three games, but the Canucks elected to send him back to junior hockey well before he maxed out his audition time. The center then split the WHL campaign between Seattle and Prince Albert, totaling 24 goals and 39 assists over 45 regular-season games. He also suited up for Canada and scored two goals over seven games at the World Junior Championship. Cootes is a quality two-way center and playmaker who should have a long future in the Canucks' top six. They may shield him from the worst years of their rebuild, so there's no guarantee he'll be in the NHL in 2026-27, but he's worth keeping an eye on if he is. Read Past Outlooks

Cootes' effort in the high-scoring game helped the Raiders close out the WHL's Eastern Conference Finals with a 4-2 series win. He was limited to a goal and six helpers in the series, earning all of that offense in three contests while going scoreless in the other three. He's at six goals, 12 assists and a plus-3 rating across 15 playoff contests. Cootes will look to keep the offense rolling against Everett in the WHL Finals, with a trip to the Memorial Cup on the line.
