2025 Fantasy Outlook
Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov were Philadelphia’s No. 1 and No. 2 options, respectively, in goal during 2024-25. They’re still under contract, so where does that leave Vladar, who signed a two-year contract with the Flyers over the summer? Vladar was okay, but not great as the backup with Calgary in 2024-25, posting a 12-11-6 record with a 2.80 GAA and a .898 save percentage in 30 outings. However, Ersson and Fedotov are coming off rough campaigns, and if you compare them in terms of goals saved above expected last season, Vladar is the only one with a positive number, even if it is a modest 0.9. This should be seen as an open competition, and while Vladar has a solid chance of entering the campaign at the top of the depth charts, his position will likely be far from secure, so he’s not a safe option for starts. Exits ice first
Vladar was the first goalie off the ice Monday, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports, indicating he'll guard the cage at home versus the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Vladar will make his second start of the year after stopping 32 of 34 shots in the season opener versus the Panthers on Thursday. Through the first three games of the year, Vladar has been evenly splitting the crease with Samuel Ersson, a trend that could continue until one of the two can separate himself from the other.

Vladar spent the summer rehabbing hip surgery, which was timed so he could be ready to start 2024-25. Look past his 8-9-2 record from last season and his 3.62 GAA, .882 save percentage and -10.76 GSAx (goals saved above expected), too. Vladar should start the season as the Flames 1A and will mentor young phenom Dustin Wolf as they platoon behind a rebuilding squad. Expectations will be low, but he could deliver league-average totals in a 40-start season.
