Pelletier signed a three-year, $2.525 million contract with the Lightning on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Pelletier's deal is a two-way pact in the first season before moving to a one-way deal in the last two years. The 24-year-old will get a fresh start in an organization that has gotten good results out of unheralded depth players before. He had a total of 19 points in 49 outings between the Flames and the Flyers last season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
Despite being selected in the first round (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft and showing great promise initially -- 26 goals and 62 points across 66 contests as an AHL rookie in 2021-22 -- Pelletier hasn't been able to establish himself in the NHL. Instead, he recorded a goal, three points and 10 hits in 13 contests with Calgary last season while averaging 9:16 of ice time. It didn't help that he missed time due to injury, but his limited role when healthy, as well as stints in the minors, speak to how far down he is on the Flames' depth chart. Pelletier will fight for a bottom-six spot on Calgary's roster during training camp, but he might not get it. At this point, it's fair to be pessimistic about Pelletier, but at the age of 23, he's still young enough to take a step forward and is thus worth keeping an eye on.
Pelletier got his first taste of NHL action in 2022-23, racking up seven points in 24 contests. All of that offense came in a nine-game span during February, but it's clear he's got enough talent to hold onto a middle-six role for much of 2023-24. He's a bit of an undersized winger, but he plays with a lot of heart and energy. He can generate as much positivity being happy for his teammates as he does for his own success. While he may be limited to the third line and the second power-play unit initially, his hockey sense is strong and it could lead to him producing enough offense to outscore his role. However, he's set to undergo surgery after suffering a shoulder injury in late September. A timeline has yet to be established, but he's almost certainly looking at a multi-month absence, so there's no reason for fantasy managers in redraft leagues to consider him on draft day.
Pelletier made his professional debut last season for AHL Stockton following an excellent junior career in the QMJHL and immediately became an impact player for the club. He averaged nearly a point per game (27 goals, 62 points in 66 games) despite playing nearly the entire campaign at age 20. He was rewarded with a spot on the AHL's All-Rookie Team. A diminutive forward with high-end skill, Pelletier, the No. 26 overall selection in the 2019 draft, should get a look with the Flames at some point in the 2022-23 season.

LWCalgary Flames
January 30, 2025
Pelletier is likely to be traded to the Flyers by the Flames on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Pelletier was pulled from Thursday's game versus the Ducks during the first intermission. Andrei Kuzmenko, who is also rumored to be in the trade, was a healthy scratch as the lone extra forward on the roster. The return from the Flyers is not yet known, but the Flames may get a bit more for a package of Pelletier and Kuzmenko than they would for one or the other alone.
