Traded to Canada's capital
Ottawa acquired Spence from the Kings on Saturday in exchange for a third-round selection in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2026.
ANALYSIS
Spence is an undersized, right-shot defender with offensive upside. He skates well and can move the puck. In 2024-25, he delivered four goals and 24 assists in 79 regular-season games with the Kings. In Ottawa, Spence could land a third-pairing role. He may also become the third option for power-play time should one of Jake Sanderson or Thomas Chabot go down with an injury.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Spence was quite efficient in a third-pairing role last season, producing 24 points - six on the power play - through 71 games while averaging just 14:26 of ice time. The 23-year-old will have an opportunity to take the next step during the 2024-25 campaign, as he could slot into the second pairing while maintaining his power-play usage now that Matt Roy left for Washington. His main competition for the role is 2021 first-round pick Brandt Clarke. Considering how effective Spence was offensively in the AHL, there's plenty of fantasy upside for the youngster should he secure that role, making him a wise late-round flier.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Wants everyday role
Spence may be traded by the Kings if the team makes additions to the right side of its defense, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Spence wants to play every day, but he is considered the No. 3 blueliner on the right side of the Kings' defense. Should the team make a splash in free agency, he may not have a spot in the lineup. Spence is valued by the Kings, but a trade may provide the opportunity the player is looking for while helping the team address other needs. He had 28 points, 80 hits, 77 blocked shots and a plus-23 rating in 79 regular-season games in 2024-25.
