Mandolese went 1-2-0 with a 3.30 GAA and a .916 save percentage in three regular-season appearances with the Senators in 2022-23, but the 25-year-old hasn't gotten another opportunity at the top level. More recently, he posted a 2.87 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 19 regular-season outings with AHL Colorado. Mandolese is set to join Montreal's training camp roster on a tryout basis, and he'll battle with Jakub Dobes and Kaapo Kahkonen for the No. 2 role behind starter Sam Montembeault. Mandolese will probably lose that fight, but he might perform well enough to earn a two-way contract, which would allow him to start the campaign in the minors and be a call-up option in the event of injury.
