Taken with the No. 96 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by Carolina, Roy was never a sure thing to even make the NHL, but he’s become a solid center. He had eight goals, 25 points, 23 PIM, 71 hits and a 52.3 faceoff winning percentage in 74 regular-season appearances with Toronto and Colorado in 2025-26. Looking ahead to his first full campaign with the Avalanche, Roy finds himself on a team with an embarrassment of riches up the middle. The 29-year-old still has the potential to settle in as the team’s primary third-line center, but the competition is fierce enough that it wouldn’t be shocking if he ends up serving on the fourth line or even finds himself as an occasional healthy scratch. Fantasy managers can still pencil him in for at least 25 points because his 2025-26 total was on the low end of what he’s capable of, but monitor him because his spot isn’t secure. Read Past Outlooks

Roy has seen inconsistent power-play time during the postseason, so he may not be able to sustain his recent scoring success throughout the full playoff run.

The ever-versatile Roy didn't have as many opportunities to move up in the Golden Knights' lineup in 2024-25. His average ice time of 15:13 per game was his lowest mark in the last four years, and it led to a 15-goal, 31-point season. The good news is that even though he was often in a fourth-line role, he still retained a power-play role, and he's seemingly always the next man up when an injury impacts a forward somewhere else in the lineup. He could occupy similar roles after being dealt to Toronto in the offseason. Roy has settled in as a consistent threat for 10-15 goals and 30-35 points at a minimum, and he also tends to average more than a hit per game while chipping in some PIM. He doesn't do enough of anything to be a widespread fantasy option, but he is a streaming option when he's higher in the lineup.
