2026 Fantasy Outlook
A lower-body injury in November kept Karlsson out of action for nearly six months. He had seven points, 30 shots on net and 13 blocked shots in 14 regular-season outings, and he looked good in the playoffs with nine points in 15 appearances before a broken wrist took him out of action. Karlsson underwent surgery on the wrist in June, and it's unclear if he'll be ready at the start of 2026-27. Even if he is, fantasy managers should take pause -- he has become quite the injury risk with at least 12 games missed in each of the last five campaigns. Karlsson still has 40-point potential if he's able to piece together a fully healthy season in a contract year, and he should add over two shots per game with a strong plus-minus rating in a middle-six role. Agrees to two-year extension
Karlsson signed a two-year, $13.5 million contract extension with the Golden Knights on Wednesday, per Jesse Granger of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Karlsson will play out the final season of his eight-year, $47.2 million contract before his new deal begins with the 2027-28 campaign. Although his upcoming $6.75 million cap hit is a somewhat modest increase in the context of the ballooning salary cap, it's also a reflection of his recent difficulties. He had four goals and seven points across just 14 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, and he finished the 2024-25 regular season with nine goals and 29 points in 53 outings. Karlsson is capable of serving in a top-six capacity, as evidenced by his 30 goals and 60 points in 70 regular-season appearances in 2023-24, but his injury history and inconsistent offensive production make him something of a risk.

Karlsson was expected to regress somewhat after scoring 30 goals and 60 points in 2023-24 on the back of a 17.1 shooting percentage -- well above his average of 11.1 percent from 2018-19 through 2022-23 -- but his collapse to nine goals and 29 points across 53 regular-season outings in 2024-25 was surprising. Luck wasn’t on his side, though. He missed time due to injury, which might have disrupted his rhythm. In addition, rather than his shooting percentage regressing toward the mean, it cratered to 7.6 percent last year. He also had just six secondary assists, breaking a streak of seven straight years with double digits in that category. Just as it was fair to believe he’d regress after his 2023-24 showing, it’s reasonable to expect a rebound will follow his rough season. Look for him to get about 15 goals and 40-50 points in 2025-26.

ANALYSIS
Karlsson is in the final season of an eight-year, $47.2 million contract. Although he had 30 goals and 60 points in 70 regular-season appearances in 2023-24, he's struggled in recent campaigns. He recorded just 29 points in 53 appearances during the 2024-25 regular season. He was limited to only 14 regular-season games in 2025-26, finishing with four goals and seven points. Still, the 32-year-old can be a solid top-six forward if he remains healthy.
