2025 Fantasy Outlook
The first season of Trenin's four-year, $14 million deal with Minnesota was a mixed bag. His 15 points in 76 regular-season games were his lowest offensive output since 2020-21, but the 28-year-old did rank 12th in the NHL with a career-high 241 hits. The physical winger also helped in the postseason, dishing out 34 hits and picking up a couple of assists across six outings. If he can reclaim some of the secondary scoring he provided earlier in his career -- his career high in goals is 17 from 2021-22 -- Trenin could be an important part of the Wild's supporting cast. However, it would be safer for fantasy managers to take him for his physicality and regard any offense he provides as a bonus. Read Past Outlooks

Offers assist Thursday
Trenin posted an assist, four hits and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-0 win over the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Trenin is off to a positive start in 2025-26. He's still in a third-line role and doesn't see much action on special teams, but he can provide plenty of physicality. His offensive ceiling is low -- he's missed the 20-point mark in two consecutive seasons after posting back-to-back 24-point campaigns the two years prior. Overall, Trenin isn't likely to move the needle much for fantasy.

Trenin has settled in as one of the more underrated defensive forwards in the NHL. He began last season in Nashville before being dealt to Colorado at the trade deadline. His overall offensive numbers -- 12 goals, 17 points in 76 regular-season games -- were roughly in line with the prior two campaigns. Trenin made a significant leap in the hits department, his 207 was a new career-best mark. He inked a four-year deal worth $14 million with the Wild in free agency and should serve in a similar bottom-six role with his new club starting this fall.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Ready to play?
Trenin, who has been sidelined with an upper-body injury, could be ready to play against Florida on Wednesday, Jessi Pierce of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Trenin has missed the Wild's last two contests due to his upper-body issue but might be ready to play after Reese Johnson was sent down to the minors Monday. Still, Johnson could be brought back prior to Wednesday's contest, so fantasy managers will have to take a wait-and-see approach when it comes to Trenin's availability. In his last four contests, Trenin recorded two goals, five shots and 14 hits while averaging 14:22 of ice time.
