Davi Ramos
The Tasmanian Devil

Not competitive once again
July 18, 2020
Ramos lost to Arman Tsarukyan via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Ramos had no answers against an opponent with legitimate star potential. The Brazilian had never been taken down in his UFC career prior to Saturday, but Tsarukyan got him to the mat on multiple occasions. To say Ramos struggled to get anything going offensively would be an understatement. He actually allowed Tsarukyan to gain top position in Round 1 in hopes of picking up a submission, but it clearly wasn't meant to be. Ramos is an extremely gifted submission specialist, but the fact he hasn't been competitive against his last two opponents (Tsarukyan, Islam Makhachev) is highly concerning. It's no coincidence that Ramos' recent struggles have come against the most talented opposition he has faced to date.

Headed for Fight Island
June 11, 2020
Ramos' scheduled lightweight matchup against Arman Tsarukyan is not set to take place July 18 on Fight Island, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
This was s fight originally set for Portland on April 11, but it ended up being one of several events canceled due to the global pandemic. Ramos is looking to get back on track after a loss to Islam Makhachev back in September that snapped a four-fight winning streak. Ramos managed just seven significant strikes landed in the three-round affair, and has historically had more success with wrestling than striking over his six bouts with the company. He'll be giving up a few inches in height and reach to Tasrukyan -- a fighter who is 1-1 with the UFC and coming off a victory over Olivier Aubin-Mercier last July.
Added to Portland card
March 5, 2020
Ramos will take on Arman Tsarukyan in a lightweight matchup at UFC Portland on April 11, Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com reports.
Ramos is coming off a loss to Islam Makhachev that snapped a four-fight winning streak, and he'll now draw an opponent that was also bested by Makhachev via decision (albeit that was Tsarukyan's UFC debut). Over a small sample size, Ramos has superior numbers in terms of striking volume, takedown average and takedown defense, though it will be Tsarukyan entering with height and reach advantages.
Unable to get much going in loss
September 7, 2019
Ramos lost to Islam Makhachev via unanimous decision (27-29, 26-30, 26-30) at The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Ramos is a BJJ wizard and heavy-handed striker, but he just couldn't get much going against a more technical, stronger fighter in Makachev. This led to Ramos trying to blitz in and make something happen in the third round, which resulted in him eating a knee and spending the rest of the fight on his back. This fight hearkened back to Ramos' first in the Octagon, when he faced another strong grappler in Sergio Moraes. The result was eerily similar. Ramos falls to 10-3 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
On card for UFC 242
June 7, 2019
Ramos will face Islam Makhachev at UFC 242 on Sept. 7.
This lightweight bout features two fighters trending upward as Ramos has won his past four fights and is 10-2 professionally, whereas Makhachev has won his past five and is 17-1 professionally.
Rolls to fourth straight victory
May 18, 2019
Ramos defeated Austin Hubbard via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Rochester, New York.
It was a fourth consecutive victory for Ramos, although the debuting opponent ended up more difficult to put away than expected. The Brazilian is one of the most gifted mat specialists on the planet and although he wasn't able to score the submission win as he did in his previous three bouts, he was in firm control from the get-go and never gave the debuting Hubbard a chance to get on track. Ramos will turn 33 years old in November, so it's time for the UFC to give him a better opponent his next time out. He entered Saturday as a (-550) favorite after being a (-1000) favorite for his previous fight last November.
