Falls in UFC 248 opener
BantamweightUFC
March 7, 2020
Cannetti lost to Danaa Batgeral via KO (punches) at 3:01 of Round 1 at UFC 248 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Things continue to trend in the wrong direction for the 40-year-old Cannetti. Generally vulnerable on the mat, this was his first knockout loss with the UFC. Things seem unlikely to improve for Cannetti moving forward given his age and lack of all-around skill. He is 2-4 in his last six fights and has been finished in every single one of them. There's zero upside here and no guarantee Cannetti gets another opportunity with the company. He has just two wins since August 2013.

Facing Danaa Batgeral at UFC 248
BantamweightUFC
January 2, 2020
Cannetti will fight Danaa Batgeral at UFC 248 in Las Vegas on March 7, Nolan King of MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Cannetti fell to Marlon Vera via submission) at UFC Fight Night 140 in mid-November, but he'll get a chance for redemption against Batgeral. "Ninja" is 8-4 in professional fights but just 2-3 since returning to the promotion from a 10-month suspension.
Gets stopped in second round
BantamweightUFC
November 17, 2018
Cannetti lost to Marlon Vera via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:31 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night 140 on Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
ANALYSIS
The first round went according to plan for Cannetti as he blitzed his opponent and landed some big strikes to jump out to an early lead. It was all downhill from there, however, as Vera won the pressure battle in Round 2, landing a knee in the clinch that led to the choke. The Argentinian is a good, aggressive fighter but doesn't seem to have a game that is fully developed. At 38 years old, it's worth wondering how much higher he has to go before he hits his ceiling. Cannetti falls to 8-4 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
Gets hometown fight
BantamweightUFC
October 23, 2018
Cannetti will take on Marlon Vera in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Argentina on Nov. 17, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cannetti has alternated wins and losses in four UFC bouts to bring his professional record to 8-3, with all three defeats coming by way of submission. He'll be giving away two inches in both height and reach to Vera, a more experienced fighter who is 4-2 in his last six trips to the Octagon. Vera has gained six of his 11 wins via submission, a dangerous prospect for Cannetti, but did turn heads his last time out with a second-round body punch KO. Cannetti does have the intangibles on his side, however, as he'll be fighting in front of his hometown crown in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Prevents the Chilean fans from getting their feel good story
BantamweightUFC
May 19, 2018
Cannetti defeated Diego Rivas via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Santiago, Chile.
ANALYSIS
Cannetti kept the Chilean crowd from getting their feel good story. His opponent, Rivas was the hometown favorite who has recovered from cancer. However, Cannetti was a step ahead in the fight. On the feet, the fight was basically even, but Cannetti had the edge on the floor. He was able to reverse positions and take the back on multiple occasions. Neither fighter really distinguished themselves, but Cannetti was able to go in hostile territory and pick up a win.
