Suffers wrist injury at UFC 250
June 10, 2020
Byrd has been suspended a possible six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending medical clearance of a left wrist fracture, reports.
This announcement could end up merely a formality given Byrd's decision to retire after his UFC 250 loss, but if he does choose to walk that statement back, he would need medical clearance in order to compete before Dec. 4. It's unclear at which point in the fight he suffered this potential injury, but it may have contributed to his loss as a relatively big betting favorite.

Announces retirement after loss
June 6, 2020
Byrd lost to Maki Pitolo via TKO (punches) at 1:10 of Round 2 at UFC 250 on Saturday in Las Vegas and announced his retirement via his personal Facebook page following the defeat.
Like teammate Alonzo Menifield, Byrd came up short on the prelims despite entering as a significant (-165) favorite. It's a particularly frustrating loss for Byrd considering he likely won Round 1. He appeared to get the better of the action in a round in which both men had their moments. The tide turned in the early stages of Round 2 when Byrd ate a combination along the fence. Pitolo fired off a few more shots on the on the ground and referee Herb Dean had (correctly) seen enough. Byrd had been knocked out in three straight fights since winning his UFC debut over John Phillips in March 2018 and finishes his MMA career with a 10-7 record.
Added to UFC 250
May 28, 2020
Byrd will take on Maki Pitolo in a middleweight matchup at UFC 250 on June 6, reports.
Byrd has lost back-to-back fights since winning his UFC debut in 2018, and he hasn't made the walk to the Octagon since getting finished in the first round by Edmn Shahbazyan in March of 2019. He'll take on a relatively new opponent in Pitolo, who lost his UFC debut to Callan Potter last October despite outlanding him 60 to 48 in significant strikes. Byrd opened up as roughly a (-170) betting favorite for this matchup shortly after the announcement.
Lasts 35 seconds against Edmen Shahbazyan
March 2, 2019
Byrd lost to Edmen Shahbazyan via TKO (strikes) at 0:38 of Round 1 at UFC 235 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Add Byrd to the list of the growing number of fighters who have been knocked out while going for a takedown attempt. The 35-year-old Texan was in deep on a single-leg try when Shahbazyan responded with a half dozen elbows to the side of his head. Game over. Byrd looked comfortable on the feet in the early going before it all caved in on him. A product of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders Series, Byrd is now 1-2 in his first three official UFC bouts.
Taking on Edmen Shahbazyan
January 25, 2019
Byrd will face Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports.
Byrd is 1-1 since joining the UFC last year, beating John Phillips in March and losing to Darren Stewart in September. His opponent also faced Stewart in his most recent match, beating him by split decision in November.
Falls against Darren Stewart at UFC 228
September 8, 2018
Bryd lost to Darren Stewart via TKO (punches) at 2:17 of Round 2 at UFC 228 on Saturday in Dallas.
Byrd got out to a lead in this fight. He was able to force Stewart to miss, and he entered the clinch. From there, Byrd seemed to land the better strikes and control the fight. However, in the second round, Stewart landed a hard elbow in the clinch. The strike hurt Byrd, and from there Stewart was all over him until the finish.
