Second straight knockout loss
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 3, 2024
Menifield lost to Azamat Murzakanov via KO (punches) at 3:18 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Menifield lasted all of a dozen seconds in his knockout loss to Carlos Ulberg in May, so in that respect, he looked much improved in this one. Of course, that's where the compliments end. Alonzo struggled with the movement and quickness of Murzakanov. Virtually all of Menifield's offensive thrusts were one-and-done, and he struggled to get his head off the center line the entire bout. Alonzo was finally put away from good about midway through Round 2 after a three-piece combo from Murzaknov sent him tumbling to the mat and forced referee Dan Movahedi to step in. Set to turn 37 years of age this coming October, Alonzo's days in the top-15 of the middleweight division have come and gone.

Menifield lost to Carlos Ulberg via KO (punches) at 0:12 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Perhaps Menifield would have won, maybe he would have lost, but he gave himself absolutely zero chance with the foolish game plan he elected to employ. Alonzo blitzed Ulberg right off the hop, firing off some wild, off balance shots that left him vulnerable for damaging return shots. Carlos took full advantage, finishing Menifield in an instant. Entering with an undefeated record in his past five fights (4-0-1), Alonzo had a real chance to make a statement here at 205 pounds, and he let it slip right through his fingers. The margin for error at this level is razor-thin, as Menifield just found out.

With Dominick Reyes (undisclosed) unable to fight Ulberg, Menifield enters as a replacement. Both Menifield and Ulberg are undefeated across their last five bouts, but Menifield will have experience on his side in March.
Undefeated in past five fights

Menifield defeated Dustin Jacoby via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 296 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
A low-volume striker with questionable cardio, the prevailing wisdom was that Menifield would struggle with the technical stand-up skills of Jacoby. That was indeed the case for about a round before everything changed. Alonzo may not have landed with the same frequency of his opponent, but he certainly landed the more memorable strikes, including the biggest blow of the fight, a Round 3 knockdown. Toss in the only successful takedown of the bout, and you have yourself a tight but well-deserved unanimous decision win. Menifield turned 36 years of age in October, so time is certainly not on his side, but he's undefeated in his last five fights (4-0-1) and should be in line for a semi-notable opponent his next time out.
