No-shows loss in Vegas
September 12, 2020
Avila lost to Sijara Eubanks via unanimous decision (27-29, 27-29, 27-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It was a horrendous effort from Avila in a fight that appeared to set up well for her. It started fairly well for Avila. She appeared to win Round 1 before the roof caved in during Round 2. Eubanks will never be mistaken for an offensive machine, but she outworked Avila no matter where this fight took place. It was an ugly performance and there is simply no way around it. Avila appeared to be making some headway following wins over Pannie Kianzad and Gina Mazany to begin her UFC run, but all that momentum was lost on Saturday. Avila entered this fight as a -280 favorite.

Rescheduled for Sept. 12
September 4, 2020
Avila is now in line to face Sijara Eubanks in a bantamweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Sept. 12, ESPN.com reports.
Avila recently had a scheduled fight against Nicco Montano postponed, and the situation is similar with Eubanks, who had a matchup against Karoline Rosa scheduled for Saturday but called off. Avila has started her UFC run with a 2-0 record, and will own height and reach advantages over Eubanks. Eubanks has a sizable advantage in both striking volume and takedown volume, though some of that was accumulated while competing at bantamweight. Nonetheless, this is undoubtedly a step up in competition from Avila's first two fights.
Fight postponed again
August 29, 2020
Avila will now fight Nicco Montano on Oct. 3 after Montano tested positive for COVID-19, MMAFighting.com reports.
This fight was already moved from Aug. 8 to Sept. 5 due to "COVID-19 related complications, and now they'll set their sights on an October bout. Montano has a little over a month to recover from the virus in order to re-enter the Octagon. Avila is 2-0 on the UFC stage, last winning via TKO against Gina Mazany in June.
Bout postponed
July 11, 2020
Avila's scheduled fight against Nicco Montano has been postponed until Sept. 5 due to 'COVID-19 related complications" in the latter's camp, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Avila sports a 2-0 record in the company and is coming off a victory over Gina Mazany on June 13. Thus, the extra month of recovery time is presumably not the worst thing for her. Her opponent, Montano, has not tested positive for COVID, but it appears somebody in her camp has. As a result, the UFC will err on the side of caution here.
To face Nicco Montano
June 17, 2020
Avila is in line to take on Nicco Montano in a bantamweight matchup at an event scheduled for Aug. 8, MMAFighting.com reports.
Avila has put together back-to-back wins since entering the UFC last summer, and she'll get a quick turnaround here following her June 13 first-round victory against Gina Mazany. The competition will step up a bit here against a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter, but Montano has fought just once since the TUF finale, losing to Julianna Pena via decision last summer. Avila will enter this fight with a two-inch advantage in height and three-inch advantage in reach against the former flyweight.
Destroys Gina Mazany
June 13, 2020
Avila defeated Gina Mazany via TKO (punches) at 0:22 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It was a dominant performance from a fighter who entered as the second-biggest favorite on the card at (-500). Facing a clearly inferior opponent, Avila simply ducked her head and pushed forward with repeated, unanswered strikes. It's the kind of plan that won't work against better competition, but it was more than enough to get by Mazany. Avila is a legitimate prospect at 135 pounds. She's won four in a row, including her first two bouts with the UFC. Expect Avila to look to get back into the Octagon sooner rather than later considering how quickly Saturday's proceedings went.
