Makwan Amirkhani
Mr. Finland

Finland

Can't ride control time to victory
FeatherweightUFC
June 6, 2021
Amirkhani lost to Kamuela Kirk via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Vegas 28 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Amirkhani very well may have deserved a better fate here, but it was clear the judges valued the striking of Kirk far greater than the grappling and control time of Amirkhani. "Mr. Finland" appeared to have his fair share of opportunities in many stalemate situations to earn back the favor of the judges, but he simply was unable to rise to the occasion. While not all of Kirk's strikes did heavy damage, the newcomer more than doubled the total strike number of Amirkhani in all three frames. Amirkhani has now lost three of his last four fights and finds himself in a difficult spot. Five of his six UFC wins have been via submission in the first two rounds, but if he's unable to find success grappling, "Mr. Finland" seemingly struggles to find other ways to win.

Drops decision to Edson Barboza
FeatherweightUFC
October 10, 2020
Amirkhani lost to Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (27-30, 26-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This appeared to be a pretty bad matchup for Amikhani on paper, and it played out exactly that way inside the Octagon. Amirkhani is a fighter with little power who relies on his submission game to be successful, and going up against powerful striker like Barboza was a recipe for potential disaster. Amirkhani managed to land 3-of-6 takedowns attempts, but his shortcomings on the feet were ultimately his downfall. Barboza entered this fight in a massive slump, but the gap in the striking department between the two men was evident from the very start. Amirkhani has alternated wins and losses in his past six bouts going back to June 2019.
