Targeting spring return
Heinisch (undisclosed) told MMA journalist James Lynch on Wednesday that he is now healthy and targeting a return in the spring of 2023.
ANALYSIS
Heinisch hasn't made the walk to the Octagon since July of 2021, when he ended up dropping his second fight in a row to Nassourdine Imavov, who only recently fell to Sean Strickland in his first main-event opportunity. Since then, Heinisch had been scheduled for a perfect bounce-back opportunity in early-2022 against the since-released Sam Alvey, but he was forced to withdraw from that matchup due to an undisclosed issue. Heinisch was at one point an intriguing middleweight contender that hit a road block once the level of competition rose, but it sounds like fight fans will see how much the 34-year-old has left in the tank in relatively short order.

Withdraws from upcoming fight
Heinisch has withdrawn from his upcoming matchup against Sam Alvey for an undisclosed reason, Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Heinisch lost his last fight and was in line to attempt to bounce back in early February, but he'll now be removed from the card for UFC Vegas 47. Phil Hawes will step in to take on Alvey in the middleweight bout.

Will fight Sam Alvey
Heinisch will fight Sam Alvey in a middleweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Feb. 5, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Heinisch is coming off a loss against Nassourdine Imavov in his previous bout, and he enters this bout with a 14-5 mark in MMA, but is also looking to end a streak to two straight losses. On paper, Heinish has big advantages in both striking defense and grappling, but Alvey's counters are always a danger. Nonetheless, considering Alvey hasn't picked up a win in any of his last seven UFC fights, look for Heinisch to enter as the betting favorite.

Never gets going in defeat
Heinisch lost to Nassourdine Imavov via TKO (punches) at 3:09 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 27 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Heinisch came out aggressively Saturday, but save for a few clinch situations, "The Hurricane" never had the upper hand, unable to get past Imavov's range. Heinisch was finding some success with leg kicks, but a stiff jab counter led to the end of the fight. Heinisch opened his UFC career with a pair of strong wins over decorated grapplers but has now lost four of his last five fights, which could see him on the chopping block come Monday. He falls to 14-5 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
