Gets tap to snap losing streak
November 28, 2020
Dos Santos defeated Martin Day via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:35 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 18 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Dos Santos was determined to get the takedown early and finally succeeded after working for several minutes. He didn't do much work from top position -- it was almost as if he were catching a breather -- but did a good job smothering his opponent. Day eventually did escape, but rather than separate, went for a double-leg takedown on dos Santos. From there, the jiu-jitsu practitioner was happy to go back to the mat, and clamped in a guillotine that was too tight for Day to get out of. Dos Santos improves to 1-2 under the UFC banner and is eager to get back into the cage as soon as possible.

Dos Santos (20-8-0) is scheduled to face Jack Shore (12-0-0) in a bantamweight bout July 15 as part of a UFC Fight Night event on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Dos Santos will be back in the Octagon for the first time in more than a year after most recently fighting in June 2019. He lost to Andre Ewell in that bout, marking his second loss in a row after Nad Narimani defeated dos Santos via unanimous decision in November 2018. Meanwhile, the undefeated Shore will be fighting for a second time under the UFC banner after beating Nohelin Hernandez via submission in his promotional debut last September.
Leans on wrestling too late
June 22, 2019
Dos Santos lost to Andre Ewell via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
Dos Santos came out looking to box with Ewell, which was never a good idea against the rangier, quicker and more technical striker. Dos Santos finally leaned on his wrestling heavily in the third frame but wasn't able to keep Ewell in mount, resulting in his defeat. Dos Santos possesses a wrestling game, as well as credentials as a high-level BJJ black belt, but his desire to stand and slug with his opponents at this level will continue to get him in trouble if he lets it. He falls to 20-8 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
