Targeted to fight in December
October 25, 2020
Barrett (ribs) is being targeted to fight Chase Hooper (thumb) in a featherweight bout at UFC 256 on Dec. 12, reports.
Barrett made his promotional debut in August when he lost to Youssef Zalal via unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN+ 32. He suffered a left rib injury during the fight, but he'll be able to return from his medical suspension slightly earlier than anticipated. He'll take on Hooper, who suffered his first UFC defeat to Alex Caceres via unanimous decision at UFC 250 in June. He sustained a right thumb injury during the bout, but he'll be ready to return against Barrett. Hooper has advantages in both height and reach.

Medical suspension for ribs
August 12, 2020
Barrett received a 180-day medical suspension after his loss to Yousseff Zalal last Saturday, reports.
Barrett fell via unanimous decision. He will be required to have an x-ray of his left ribs and if positive will need an orthopedic doctor to clear him or he will not be able to fight again until February 5, 2021.
Beaten handily by Zalal
August 9, 2020
Barrett lost to Youssef Zalal via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN+ 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Barrett deserves some credit for hanging in there with a fighter that few expected him to beat, but he overall wasn't very competitive. He was nearly finished in Round 1, as Zalal landed a massive spinning back kick to his face that sent him to the canvas, but he was ultimately able to survive. He took another flying knee and a few powerful right hands in that frame, but returned fire just enough to potentially avoid a 10-8 round. He wasn't able to do the same in Round 2, however, as Zalal used a hip toss to get Barrett to the mat with his back exposed, and Barrett had to spend the remainder of the round fighting off a choke. The third round was a bit closer in the striking department, but still Zalal all the way. Barrett finished this fight with just 23 significant strikes and was 0-for-2 on his takedown attempts.
Gets new opponent
July 25, 2020
Barrett is now set to square off against Youssef Zalal in a featherweight matchup at UFC's upcoming Aug. 8 event, Mike Heck of reports.
Barrett was originally set to take on Steve Garcia (undisclosed) but will now take on the Zalal. It is Barrett's debut fight with the company. His new opponent sports an undefeated UFC record.
New fight date set
July 3, 2020
Barrett will take on Steve Garcia at the Aug. 8 event in Las Vegas, reports.
Barrett was initially scheduled to make his UFC debut in Nebraska back in late April, but the COVID-19 pandemic squashed that opportunity. The 33-year-old featherweight has another bout on the schedule and will aim to build off of his Contender Series win over Sang Hoon Yoo versus Garcia, who took a loss via unanimous decision against Luis Pena in his debut back in February. Barrett yields two inches of height and reach to his opponent.
Set to make debut in Nebraska
April 5, 2020
Barrett (11-3-0) is scheduled to face Danny Henry (12-3-0) in a featherweight fight at UFC Lincoln on April 25, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Barrett, who was first awarded a UFC contract last August as part of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series, will be making his promotional debut in a preliminary fight for the April 25 card. The 33-year-old had won two of his last three fights before earning a contract following his unanimous decision win over Sang Hoon Yoo in August.
