Major upset earns contract
September 15, 2020
Anglin defeated Muhammadjon Naimov via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of three fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
Anglin entered this fight as the biggest betting underdog on the card at (+285), but he was absolutely a game opponent. He had to withstand his fair share of heavy shots early, but weathered the storm and was able to turn momentum in his favor in Round 2. After catching a knee, he turned it into a takedown and looked to be completely on par with Naimov in the grappling exchanges, smoothly transitioning between his opponent's back and full mount. Anglin took complete control in the third round, giving everything he had to get the finish and only coming short due to the next-level toughness of his opponent. He ultimately got two 10-8 rounds on the scorecards en route to victory. At 27 years old, he has plenty of time to hone his skills and make an impact in the featherweight division.
