Ontiveros lost to Steve Garcia via TKO (punches) at 1:51 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros lasted about four more minutes in this fight than in his UFC debut against Kevin Holland last October, so in that sense, he is improving. Of course, it's far from a guarantee he gets a third opportunity after this setback. The early returns on Ontiveros have been troubling to say the least. He landed just 15 total strikes here compared to 70 from Garcia. Ontiveros also allowed his opponent to connect on three of his five takedown attempts. Both are a recipe for disaster and that's exactly how it has played out for the 30-year-old Texan during his brief time with the company. There is little to be excited about here.

Ontiveros will take on Steve Garcia on the Oct. 9 UFC card, Sergio Pineiro of FighterPath reports.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros took his last fight on short notice and ultimately submitted to Kevin Holland in the first round of last October's clash. He will wait almost a year before getting his next chance in the Octagon, which arrives against a fighter in Garcia who owns a 1-1-0 record in the UFC after falling to Luis Pena via unanimous decision in February.
Appears to avoid major injury

Ontiveros lost to Kevin Holland via verbal submission (injury) at 2:39 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In for Makhmud Muradov (undisclosed) on less than a week's notice, Ontiveros looked the part of a +550 underdog. He appeared to suffer some sort of potential serious neck injury in the bout which caused him to verbally submit, but UFC President Dana White reported Ontiveros had feeling in all of his extremities not long after the fight ended, and that's obviously all that matters at this point. It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old Texan will get another opportunity with the UFC.
Steps in on short notice

Ontiveros will step in on short notice to face Kevin Holland at UFC Vegas 12 on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ontiveros will be stepping in on less than a week's notice in place of Makhmud Muradov, who withdrew from the matchup due to undisclosed reasons. While it will be his official UFC debut, Ontiveros has plenty of experience under the bright lights, competing in respected promotions such as Bellator, Legacy FC, LFA and Fury FC. It's most recently been Fury FC, where he's compiled back-to-back first-round knockouts. He'll be giving up two inches in height and five inches in reach to a younger fighter in Holland.

ANALYSIS
Ontiveros was scheduled to step in on short notice after Eric Spicely withdrew from the event due to an undisclosed injury. It's unclear when he will next step into the octagon under the UFC promotion.
