Easily handles Tony Ferguson
Green defeated Tony Ferguson via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 4:54 of Round 3 at UFC 291 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
Green was supposed to retire following his bout with Jared Gordon this past April, but the fight ended in a no-contest, prompting him to get back in the Octagon here. He appeared rejuvenated, but he's always a guy that fights with a ton of energy. Entering as a -400 favorite against an opponent that had lost five in a row, Green was expected to dominate, and it largely played out that way. The submission win was the ninth of Bobby's career and his first since his UFC debut against Jacob Volkman at UFC 156 in February 2013. Green will be 37 years of age this coming September, but "King" has some gas left in the tank if he wants to continue fighting. He'll also take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here.

Books fight with Ferguson
Green will take on Tony Ferguson in a lightweight bout at UFC 291 on July 29 in Salt Lake City, Shaheed Al-Shatti of MMAFighting.com reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Green was supposed to call it a career and ride off into the sunset in a retirement fight with Jared Gordon back in April. However, the fight was ruled a no-contest due to accidental clash of heads. Now, Green will get his chance at a proper sendoff, and his opponent will be a fighter desperate to bounce back. Tony Ferguson has suffered five straight losses, most recently at the hands of Nate Diaz in a headlining fight in September.

Retirement bout ends in no-contest
Green and Jared Gordon fought to a no-contest at 4:35 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In what was expected to be the final professional fight of Green's long career, he appeared to have knocked Gordon out late in Round 1. In fact, ring announcer Joe Martinez was all set to announce the decision, at which point referee Keith Peterson wisely had the replay officials take a look at the stoppage, and it was (correctly) determined an accidental clash of heads led to the sequence of events that ended the bout. Hopefully the UFC can book these two again in short order, and Green can be given a proper sendoff.

Taking on Jared Gordon
Green agreed to face Jared Gordon at UFC's April 22 event, Nolan King and Farah Hannoun of USA Today report.
ANALYSIS
Green was KO'd by Drew Dober in December and also lost his previous bout to Islam Makhachev in early 2022, though the latter fight was taken on just two weeks notice. Gordon is coming off a controversial loss to Paddy Pimblett last month, which dropped his UFC record to 7-5.

Finished by Drew Dober
Green lost to Drew Dober via KO (punch) at 2:45 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Live by the sword, die by the sword. As has been the case his entire pro career, Green is a one-dimensional boxer with supreme confidence in his hand speed. For seven-plus minutes in this fight, his game plan worked to perfection. Then Dober uncorked one left hand which floored Green and closed the show on the spot. Bobby is now 36 years of age. His days of potentially impacting the top of the lightweight division have come and gone. He's still a ton of fun to watch and has real value to a company which holds an event most every week, but the UFC should probably be careful regarding who they match Green up against moving forward. Bobby has now lost back-to-back fights on the heels of a brief two-fight winning streak. On the bright side, he'll walk away with an extra $50,000 after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
