Mauricio Ruffy

Brazil
Makes statement with huge win
Ruffy defeated King Green via KO (kick) at 2:07 of Round 1 at UFC 313 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Clearly upset he was forced to go the distance with James Llontop at Madison Square Garden last November, Ruffy wasted no time getting Green out of there with a spinning wheel kick which will earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus and be in the conversation for Knockout of the Year when 2025 concludes (the bonus was later confirmed by UFC President Dana White). The blow hit Green right in the temple and dropped King face-first to the canvas. It was truly a thing of beauty. Ruffy spent his post-fight interview calling for a headline spot against Beneil Dariush on a Fight Night card. It's not a bad idea.

Takes decision as massive favorite
Ruffy defeated James Llontop via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
This fight was a mixed bag for Ruffy. He won an easy decision, but as a -1000 favorite, you would have liked to see him earn the stoppage. He landed more than a handful of his trademark power blows which would have put away any mere mortal, but Llontop ate them all and somehow managed to win Round 3 on all three scorecards. Part of that was due to the fact Ruffy appeared visibly exhausted. The power of the Brazilian is legitimate, but Ruffy's secondary skills are questionable, and his cardio appears mediocre. There's most definitely a scenario in which he starts to struggle when tasked with facing better competition.
