Taps out after weight miss
LightweightUFC
April 27, 2024
Llontop lost to Chris Padilla via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:33 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 55 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The past 36 hours are the type that can make a fighter lose his roster spot. Llontop missed weight by half a pound on Friday morning, costing him a percentage of his purse in order for the bout to proceed. He was then tapped out by Padilla late in Round 1 despite being a -500 favorite, one of the largest on the entire card. Llontop is probably going to get the benefit of the doubt because he's just 24 years old and this was his first fight with the UFC, but he's clearly got some things to correct moving forward.

Earns fifth contract awarded Tuesday

Llontop defeated Malik Lewis via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Llontop entered this fight as only a slight betting favorite, but the numbers look about as good as they can for a fighter who didn't lock in a finish. He landed 74 of his 136 significant strikes attempted (54 percent), which included two knockdowns. Llontop also landed four times (!!) as many total strikes as his opponent. While he did concede a pair of takedowns to Lewis in Round 1, he was always able to get up quickly and regain form, racking up 6:53 worth of control time in the fight (compared to 1:04 for Lewis). Lewis simply wouldn't go away, but Llontop left no doubt who the better man was in the eye of the judges. After spending most of his recent career on the Peruvian regional circuit, the 24-year-old will now join the UFC's lightweight division.
