Falls via split decision at UFC 265
BantamweightUFC
August 7, 2021
Kenney lost to Yadong Song via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC 265 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
This was a strange fight. It was Kenney who spent the near entirety of the bout pushing forward and controlling the pace, but he was seemingly just out of striking range every single time he tried to string together combinations. Virtually all of his offense was one-and-done. Kenney has just two knockout victories in his pro career, so his margin for error if he falls behind on the judge's scorecards is very slim. Kenney started off his UFC run with five wins in his first six bouts, but he has now suffered back-to-back split decision defeats. The prior one came against former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz this past March.

BantamweightUFC
June 7, 2021
Kenney will take on Song Yadong in a bantamweight bout at the UFC 265 on August 7, MMAJunkie.com reports.

Drops tight one in Vegas
BantamweightUFC
March 6, 2021
Kenney lost to Dominick Cruz via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC 259 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a fairly strong showing from Kenney in the most high-profile fight of his career. He was solid in Round 1 and excellent in Round 2 before fading just a tad in Round 3. Kenney made a concerted effort to damage the legs of Cruz, which is harder than it seems given Dom's legendary footwork. Kenney appeared baffled at times by the constant movement of Cruz, but by and large did a decent job of solving the riddle that is the former WEC/UFC champion. A long time member of the LFA roster, Kenney is now 5-2 in his first seven UFC bouts. It would be nice if he offered a bit more in terms of knockout power, but Kenney is excellent on the mat in addition to having never been knocked out in his professional career. The soon-to-be 30-year-old Indiana native will be back in short order.
Booked against Cruz
BantamweightUFC
December 5, 2020
Kenney will take on Dominick Cruz in a bantamweight fight at UFC 259 on March 6, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kenney carries a three-fight winning streak, and he'll be rewarded with a matchup against a high-profile opponent in Cruz. Kenney won two fights over a span of three weeks in October, most recently defeating Nathaniel Wood via unanimous decision at UFC 254. Cruz has been in contention for the bantamweight title over the last four years, but he's lost back-to-back fights. His most recent loss was to Henry Cejudo via TKO (punches) at UFC 249 in May. Cruz has an edge in height, but the two fighters are even in reach.
Second victory in three weeks
BantamweightUFC
October 24, 2020
Kenney defeated Nathaniel Wood via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC 254 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
It's Kenney's second victory in the span of three weeks and his third in the span of less than five months. This one didn't come easy. Wood was plenty competitive in what was a back-and-forth affair. Kenney landed the cleaner, harder punches throughout the course of the fight, but Wood connected with countless leg kicks that kept him close in the eyes of the judges. With the fight seemingly up for grabs in the later stages, Kenney connected on a pair of clutch takedowns to secure the victory. A member of the UFC roster since March 2019, Kenney is now 5-1 with the company, with his only loss during that span coming against rising star Merab Dvalishvili. He'll also take home $50,000 for his efforts here, as this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Quick turnaround on Fight Island
BantamweightUFC
October 8, 2020
Kenney will take on Nathaniel Wood in a catchweight matchup (140 pounds) at UFC 254 on Oct. 24 on Fight Island, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kenney is fresh off a dominant win against Heili Alateng on Oct. 3, and expressed interest in a quick turnaround in his post-fight interview. He'll ultimately get his wish, drawing a highly-regarded prospect just three weeks later. The UFC will also give him a break on the weight cut due to the quick turnaround. Both men sport 4-1 UFC records and measure up similarly from a physical standpoint. Each throw (and land) a high striking volume, though Kenney has slightly better defensive marks. Wood has the statistical grappling edge, however, sporting a statistically superior takedown average, submission attempt average and takedown defense.
